Sidney Wheelan

Sidney is a seasoned lawyer with over 25 years of experience in the field of law. Throughout her extensive career, she has worked with a wide range of clients, from individuals to businesses, providing them with high-quality legal representation and counsel. Her exceptional legal skills and dedication to her clients have earned her a reputation as a skilled negotiator and litigator.

In 2016, Sidney decided to take her career to the next level by opening her own practice, Wheelan Law -- specializing in personal injury, estate planning and business law. However, she understands that all cases are unique and focuses on providing personalized legal services tailored to her clients' specific needs.

In 2023, Sidney embarked on a new endeavor to renovate the vacant Merrell University building in the historic downtown area of Moberly, MO. The commercial space is now home to Wheelan Law and an assortment of other local businesses. 

​

On July 1, 2025, Wheelan Law acquired and merged with The Wendel Law Office in Carrollton, Missouri.  This merger brings together two trusted law offices with a shared commitment to personal, dependable and high-quality legal representation.  We will be able to offer our clients an expanded set of legal services and access to additional resources at two convenient locations.

Jake Peak

Jake Peak

Jake is a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Law.  Jake holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a minor in Military Science and Leadership. 

 

Jake additionally serves parttime in the U.S. Army Reserves as a Judge Advocate General Officer. 

 

He approaches every opportunity with a mindset of continuous learning and is deeply committed to serving his community and supporting the firm’s clients with diligence and care. Jake’s area of work includes Litigation, Personal Injury, Family Law, Probate, Contracts, and Estate Planning.

Joyce Wendel

Joyce Wendel

With more than 33 years of legal experience, Joyce Wendel has built a career defined by integrity, dedication, and a deep commitment to clients and community.

 

Joyce earned both a Bachelor of Science (1987) and Master of Arts (1988) in Sociology from Central Missouri State University (now the University of Central Missouri). She then served as Assistant Editor of Juvenile Law Reports from 1989 to 1992 before completing a Juris Doctor at the University of Missouri–Columbia in 1992.

 

Following law school, Joyce began legal practice as an associate with Rahm, Crawford & Wendel. After eight years with the firm, she established her own practice, Wendel Law Office, LLC, in 2000, where she continued to serve clients as a solo practitioner until June 2025.

 

In addition to private practice, Joyce has held important public service roles. In 2007, she was appointed by Governor Matt Blunt as Prosecuting Attorney for Carroll County, a role she held through 2010. That same year, Governor Blunt also appointed Joyce to serve on Missouri’s Task Force on Alternative Sentencing, contributing to statewide discussions on justice reform.

​On July 1, 2025, Joyce merged her Carrollton firm with The Wheelan Law Firm of Moberly, Missouri.  This merger brings together two trusted law offices with a shared commitment to personal, dependable, and high-quality legal representation.

 

Joyce is a member of The Missouri Bar and the Western District of Missouri, with memberships dating back to 1992. She currently serves on the board of directors for Opportunity Enterprises, Inc., Five Acres, and Spring Manor in Carrollton — non-profit corporations for individuals with mental disabilities.
